About Sassa Child Support Grant
The Child Support Grant is a sum of money paid by the government of South Africa, to a primary care giver of a child under the age of 18. The primary care giver may be a parent, grandparent or anyone above 16 years old whose principal responsibility involves caring for the child.
The grant targets residents from lower-income households, who require financial aid to help attend to the needs of a child or children. Each primary care giver can get a Child Support Grant for up to six (6) children, who are not their legal or biological children.
The top-up CSG of R240 came into effect on 1 June 2022, as a channel to help relatives or primary care givers to render for an orphan’s primary needs. This implies that, the total Child Support Grant is R720 per child, per month.
