Welcome to sainsider.co.za, a comprehensive platform for anything South Africa. In this article, we will be talking about how to check my uif status. Kindly stay with us.

Overview

Because South Africa’s unemployment rate continues to climb, the government was forced to establish the Unemployment Insurance Fund to mitigate its socioeconomic consequences. As a result, the agency’s principal function is to provide unemployed people with a safety net.

Statistics South Africa revealed earlier this year that the country’s jobless rate is 34 percent. People who have previously worked in the country are eligible for short-term financial assistance.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund provides workers with this financial assistance (UIF). The UIF provides short-term financial assistance to unemployed persons, including those who are unable to work.

UIF Unemployment Benefits

When your employer ends your employment, you can claim for unemployment compensation through the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).

The benefits are only available if you have contributed to the UIF while working. You cannot file a claim if you have quit, been suspended, or gone missing from work. If the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA) finds your resignation to be a constructive dismissal, you may file a claim.

To be eligible for benefits, you must first register as a job seeker. You must apply for UIF benefits as soon as you become jobless or within six months of losing your job.

How To Check UIF Status

UIF now has mobile phone services. Call 012 337 1680 to check your status progress or dial the UIF status USSD code, *134*843#, and follow the prompts.

The UIF compensates contributors who are unable to work due to layoff, illness, maternity leave, or adoption leave. The UIF also provides benefits to the dependents of dead fund contributors.

You must, however, be a member of the UIF and have contributed to the fund. This donation equates to 2% of your gross monthly income. Your company is responsible for donating 1% to the fund, with the remaining 1% withheld from your pay.
